Games Theory

Well i had a tutorial with Ann yesturday and i talked about what i wanted to do for our written piece. I going for heading towards the gaming theory in terms of its connections with film and animation in terms of art vs buisness. I want to talk about how gaming has become ever so growing to the point its artistic style and originality is being over shadowed by commercialism and constant sequals which we are familiar with in the film industry. And the connection being mainstrean developers churning out unoriginal quick buck games/films in favour of more original and interesting concepts which could be pushing the medium further in terms of mechanics and the way we play and watch films. I hav'nt fully gone through the idea of this so i'll have to research alot to fully say what i mean.

Apart from that anyone hyped for Duke Nukem Forever?! Well to be honest i'm not, but i carnt help but be curious of this long awaited title and how it performs. Also don't you love when a game knows its a game and takes the piss, well Duke does and its looks funny as hell

Cinematography

For my cinematography project im working with Loz, Emily, Ryan, Charlie, Sasha, Alice and Nigel. And for the project we chose to do a horror/comedy spoof piece. Basically we have Emily our actor hearing a noise whilst in bed only to find nothing there. Later coming back to bed she finds a stalking hoover in her bed.

Heres just a really rough edit of our movie, ive only but a black and white filter over it to show Frankie how it would look in rough. Theres still sound on it and the timing is out. Plus we have other footage to put in since theres a couple missing shots.

Rough Edit. Best played without sound

The crew hard at work :)

Swing Heil

So its been a while since i updated my progress so here it is. At the moment i'm working on the Swing Heil project. Over the past month ive done a couple of short animations, but also doing reference sketches and talking with Gaz and Kat to get exactly what they want. I'm working side by side with Tom with the animating in this which is very good since its great to have someone to go to ask for advice on a piece. So far animating has been quite difficult with the scenes having various camera movement, cloth movement and just getting it look good has been hard. But at the same time its been great. And i'm glad to be doing it since i'm learning alot and like the whole team part of the work.

Heres the first scene i had to do. Its the introduction to the dance scene in which the two main characters start dancing.

First off is the rough and then after just some quick line up for the more difficult parts for which would be difficult for our line clean artist to do

The next scene is when the nazi's start to come into the movie. In this scene i had to do a nazi soldier pointing and having nazi soldiers pouring into the screen in a shadowy siloette style. So we have the real nazi up close and the shadow in the middle of the shot.I havnt finished the scene at the moment because of how hard the angle is for the shadows when the nazi's come into shot. Since the light is coming from the bottom left at a 3 quarter angle the shadows would have to have change in size and angle as they move through the scene.

I watched many videos of swing dance and actually bought Swing Kids on DVD to get reference. Heres just a complication of the dance scenes in the movie which are quite useful

Heres just a scene i did very quickly for an upcoming shot i will proberly been animating.
